Google hands out ad credit to businesses with a verified profile. Here is the path from claiming your listing to spending the credit well.

Most small businesses treat their Google Business Profile as a directory listing. It is closer to a front door. It also happens to be the fastest route to free advertising credit, and the requirements are simple enough to finish in an afternoon.

Claim and verify first

Nothing else works until Google confirms you are real. Search your business name, select "Own this business?", and complete verification by video, phone, or postcard depending on what Google offers your category. Verification usually resolves inside a week.

Complete the profile like a landing page

A thin profile converts badly and disqualifies you from most promotional offers. Fill in every field:

  • Primary and secondary categories, chosen for search language rather than internal titles
  • Service area or physical address, with hours including holidays
  • Products and services with prices or ranges
  • Ten or more photos of real work, team, and space
  • A business description written for a customer deciding between you and one competitor

Find the credit

Google Ads credit arrives through three channels. Check each:

  1. 1Inside your Business Profile dashboard. Offers surface as a promotion banner once your profile is verified and complete.
  2. 2Inside a new Google Ads account. Google routinely offers matched spend for first-time advertisers, often $500 credit for $500 spent within 60 days.
  3. 3Through partners. Web hosts, payment processors, and chambers of commerce distribute coupon codes to members.

Apply the promo code within 14 days of creating the ads account. Codes expire quietly.

Spend the credit on something measurable

Matched-spend credit rewards businesses already ready to advertise. Before you activate:

  • Point ads at one page built for one action, not your homepage
  • Track calls and form fills as conversions, not clicks
  • Start with branded and high-intent local terms where purchase intent already exists
  • Cap the daily budget so the matched period stretches the full 60 days

What to watch after launch

Review search terms weekly for the first month. Negative keywords do more for a small budget than bid strategy ever will. Pull the report, add anything irrelevant to a negatives list, and repeat.

Credit is a starting budget, not a strategy. Treat the free spend as a paid test of your positioning, and the results tell you whether the offer, the page, or the audience needs work before you commit real money.

Strategy

Put the thinking to work on your business.

An audit turns general advice into three decisions specific to your channels, your messaging, and your pipeline.
