Automation earns its keep on repetitive, low-judgment work. Here are the tasks worth handing to a system, and the ones worth keeping.

Automation gets sold as transformation. It works better as maintenance. The goal is not a machine running your marketing. The goal is reclaiming the hours you currently spend on work requiring no judgment.

Automate this week

Lead routing and acknowledgment. Every inbound form should trigger an instant reply with a real next step and route to an owner with a due date. Silence after a form fill costs more deals than any messaging problem.

Review requests. Trigger a request three days after service completion, with one follow-up seven days later. Two touches capture most of the reviews you will ever get.

Recurring reporting. Build one dashboard pulling traffic, leads, and pipeline. Schedule it to your inbox Monday morning. Stop rebuilding slides.

Content distribution. One published piece should fan out automatically to email, social queues, and your sales team's shared library.

Onboarding sequences. New customers receive the same six questions and the same five resources every time. Send them on a schedule instead of remembering.

CRM hygiene rules. Auto-assign lead source, deduplicate on email, and flag records with no activity in 30 days.

Keep human

  • Positioning and messaging decisions
  • Responses to unhappy customers
  • Sales follow-up on high-value accounts
  • Anything requiring a judgment call about tone

Automated empathy reads as automated. Customers notice.

A two-hour implementation order

  1. 1List every marketing task you touched twice last month
  2. 2Mark each as repetitive or judgment-based
  3. 3Automate the top three repetitive tasks with the tools you already pay for
  4. 4Document each automation in one paragraph so it survives staff changes

Start with three. Compounding hours matter more than an impressive workflow diagram.

Strategy

Put the thinking to work on your business.

An audit turns general advice into three decisions specific to your channels, your messaging, and your pipeline.
